Fritz Haeg

Guest Lecturer

Alternately wearing the hat of architect, artist, curator, designer, educator, gardener, producer, and writer, Fritz Haeg rejects disciplinary boundaries in favor of the freedom and diversity of a broad life in art and design. Collaboration plays a central role in most of his projects and initiatives, which are conceived as direct responses to observed needs that have been isolated or ignored by contemporary society.

Haeg was born in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, in 1969. He has been a faculty member at Parsons School of Design, the University of Southern California, and Art Center College of Design. He established Fritz Haeg Studio in 1995, and a wide range of his architectural, landscape, and design projects have been realized. His current projects include the Bernardi Salcedo residence in Los Angeles, a surfer's retreat in Costa Rica, the Cassidy Dole-Recio residence in Los Angeles, and the redesign of the contemporary art gallery Peres Projects.

In 2001 he established Sundown Salon, a Sunday-evening exchange of ideas, art, and performance that takes place at his home. Past events have included works by Pipilotti Rist, Alex Segade, and Malik Gaines. In fall 2004 Sundown Salon brought together CCA's various graduate programs for projects, one of which was a workshop and event entitled Special Delivery.
