Artist Statement
Her name is Shoko.
She is a twenty-five years old Japanese female
who has been living in the States for seven years.
Growing up in a family of Lay Mahayana Buddhists,
Shoko was taught to live self-reflectively and respectfully as a layperson
by sympathizing or relating herself to everything she is surrounded.
As an artist, she seeks a way to produce a space for peaceful meetings, or moments beyond confrontation.
She calls it chashitsu, a tearoom.
