Thesis Abstract My name is Kate Koeppel, and I am a designer and maker from Seattle, Washington. My thesis explores the environmental, social and economic impact of the devaluation of self-reliance. Historically, skill exchange has been a social and communal experience, but today we rely primarily on money to buy what we need instead of learning within our communities, or using our own two hands to make, mend and build what we need. By creating playful skill-sharing experiences I hope to encourage a paradigm shift through the revaluation of self-reliance skills. I am available for design collaboration, dinner parties and freelance work.
