Artist Statement
Julie Henson is an artist whose recent work uses installation and video to highlight the interface between images and the structure of belief systems. Using a combination of sculptural materials and images, her work amplifies many of the iconic references within contemporary religious and cultural experiences.

Using physical space to explore how image is constructed, recent projects have explored the captivating image of cultural and religious icons and the power of television to disseminate information. These concepts have taken form by projecting televangelist promotional videos over sequined fabric; building a theatrical set that breaks down the theater’s fourth wall through a series of multidirectional props, walls and lights; and reconstructing the eye makeup of media celebrity, Tammy Faye Bakker. Each project explores the part that image plays in the construction of an ideology by employing cultural ephemera.
