Artist Statement I am certain about my firm rejection of specificity, certainty and definition.
I reflect this through my attempt to manipulate and reconstruct elements in foreign languages, tongue twisters, superstitious beliefs, and cultural and iconographic symbols.
My main goal is to positively misunderstand (re-interpret) everything, in hopes of having you misunderstand (re-interpret) my work in a different way than I would.
Examples:
1. Tongue twisters are a form of shibboleth. What happens to my defined Egyptian identity, when I write them down instead of uttering them?
2. Based on specific subjective beliefs of different cultures, superstitions seem to be created. What happens when I combine a seemingly Eastern belief with a Western one?
3. What happens when I write Stupid Superstition as one word on a piece of paper? What happens when I separate the dots of their is and the crosses of their ts onto another piece of paper?
4. Objects at Walgreens have a specific function. What happens when I only buy all the objects that are the same size as toast?
Through imposing intentional subjectivity, stupidity and repetition I attempt to give the structure of my work a distracted, non-linear, non-sense infused form.
I subjectively object to certainty and definition.
